Code:You encompasses Code Louisville and Code Kentucky, and is part of KentuckianaWorks—a non-profit workforce organization. The program aims to equip Kentucky residents with software development skills to secure entry-level tech positions. Code:You
supports participants through training, mentorship, career preparation, and connections with employers. Aiming to foster diversity, Code:You builds a supportive learning community that inspires participants to excel in tech careers.
Role Summary
Code:You recently received new grant funding to provide additional support and services to residents of 12 specific counties of Kentucky. The Community Coordinator will focus specifically on the residents of this region, which include the following counties: Bell, Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin, Pike, Harlan, Leslie, Knott, Letcher, Perry, and Knox. The Community Coordinator will work in tandem with the Regional Training Coordinator to provide a high quality training experience by following students throughout the program, providing case management services, reviewing student participation in the program, and creating an engaged learning community. Many of the participants come from marginalized and barriered groups, in particular rural, low-income areas. The Community Coordinator will be tasked with getting them to sign up, help them find resources to stay engaged and stick with the program to the end.
The primary responsibilities of the Community Coordinator are:
- Take a creative approach to finding what keeps participants engaged and active in their training
- Recruit prospective participants to join the program, particularly those in rural, low-income regions of Eastern Kentucky
- Convey information about the program through outreach, info sessions, and program orientation
- Enroll them into classes and proactively reach out during the program to offer support, communicate about the program, and coordinate further classes
- Remain in contact with current and prospective students throughout the program, encouraging them to remain engaged as well as helping them find resources to address other barriers they may have
- Administer an assessment of potential students and confirm progress/completion through various stages of the program
- Enter info into data systems including enrollment stages, case notes, or other important information, and provide proper reporting metrics
- Be very communicative, responsive, and able to clearly communicate the program to interested parties
- Cultivate a list of services and refer students to local Career Centers and other partners for additional supportive needs and job seeking opportunities
- Have a positive, people-oriented attitude that promotes an atmosphere that technology is a viable pathway for everyone and an exciting career to pursue
- Other duties necessary to promote the success of the program
Required Skills and Experience
- A combination of education and/or work experience in relevant fields such as event planning, social work/workforce development, technology, higher education, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience in community outreach and/or case management.
- Attention to detail in tracking participant information in data-tracking and reporting systems and creating reports.
- Strong comfort with technology and can convey a message that technology is an exciting career pathway to choose.
- Coordinates with many entities including workforce organizations, career centers, and employers.
- Familiarity with software development principles is preferred
- Ability to work in a hybrid role (remote and in-person) with comfort in virtual communication tools (e.g., video conferencing, Slack)
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills
Additional Requirements
- Must reside in or near South Eastern Kentucky, and able to travel around these counties: Bell, Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin, Pike, Harlan, Leslie, Knott, Letcher, Perry, or Knox
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel within the region
Work Schedule and Benefits
Schedule
- 40 hours per week
- Occasional attendance during evening events and training classes (5:30-8pm Monday – Thursday)
- Flexible scheduling, with the option of working four 10-hour days (Monday–Thursday).
- Occasional Friday events may be required.
